Applying

How do I apply?
You can apply using our online form , or download a pdf and mail it in.

You can also pick up an application form at any Rural Municipality office, Saskatchewan Archives office and ISC offices in Regina, Saskatoon, Moose Jaw, Swift Current, Yorkton, North Battleford, Prince Albert and Humboldt.

What if I miss the March 15th deadline?
Because the Century Family Farm Award is an annual program, with awards distributed in June each year, applications received after the March 15th deadline will be eligible to receive the award the following year.

Can someone else apply on behalf of a land owner?
Yes. However, please ensure the land owner’s name and address is used on the application form (and all correspondence will be sent to them). If for any reason the land owner is unable to be the contact for ISC, please include the landowner’s name and your address on the application form with an explanation.

Can I apply for an ISC Century Family Farm Award if I am related to the owner, but I don’t own the land?
No. The applicant must own or co-own the quarter section they are applying for.

If I own more than one quarter section of land that is 100 years old, can I apply for all of them?
Only one Century Family Farm Award is presented per landowner/family. You must choose the quarter section you’d like to recognize. Most people choose their homestead quarter, where their ancestor’s original house was built, or the quarter they live on.

Do I need to provide any documentation?
You do not need to send any historical documentation with your application. ISC, in partnership with the Saskatchewan Archives Board, will do all of the research on your behalf, free of charge. However, if you happen to have a historical document you'd like to submit with your application form, please send a copy - do not send the original.

Eligibility

Do I qualify if my family owns the land, but someone else operates the farm?
Yes. As long as your family has some connection to farming the land for 100 years and still owns the land, you qualify to receive a Century Family Farm Award.

What if the farm is a partnership (between family members, or one family member and non-family members)?
You can choose to list more than one person as the landowner on the application form, but you will receive only one award package. Special arrangements can be made to increase the number of Century Family Farm Award certificates, so please indicate your circumstances on the application form.

My family member (parent, sibling, cousin, etc.) and I both own and operate different quarter sections which were homesteaded by the same ancestor. Are we both eligible?
As long as you and your family member both own and operate these different quarter sections and the land has been in your family for 100 years or more, then you are both eligible for an award.

A relative received the Century Family Farm Award a few years ago. Now, I own the land, am I eligible for the award now that the land is in my name?
Only one Century Family Farm Award is presented per family. This means that once the award has been provided for a quarter section and/or family, the award cannot be presented again. We do check our records at the start of each program year.

Award Options

What do I receive with the Century Family Farm Award program?
All recipients of the Century Family Farm Award receive the following:

How do I receive my award?
ISC hosts celebratory events throughout the month of June across the province and all recipients are invited. At the event, they will receive a copy of their original land grant or title and their ISC Century Family Farm Award Certificates. Their selected indoor wall plaque or gate sign will be shipped to them directly from the manufacturer. If unable to attend an event, all materials are mailed at the end of June.

I ordered my gate sign for $400 (plus taxes), and now I want an indoor wall plaque. Is that free?
ISC provides a choice of one award per family (the free indoor wall plaque or gate sign at a $400 cost, plus taxes). The gate sign costs $480 (plus taxes) to manufacture, but ISC provides it at a cost of $400 (plus taxes) — reduced by the $80 value of the free award. So, you would pay full price ($80 plus taxes) for the additional wall plaque.

Why is there a cost for the gate sign option?
The gate sign is the largest award available, and is made of high quality cedar. ISC subsidizes the cost by the value of the free award (approximately $80) to lower the cost to families.

Does the gate sign come with a post?
Due to the various ways and places the signs can be hung, the gate sign does not come with any hanging mechanisms or posts.

Can I choose more than one award?
Yes. ISC awards one of the following options: an indoor wall plaque (free) or a gate sign at a subsidized price ($400). If you wish to receive another award, you may purchase it. The cost of additional wall plaques are $80 each (plus taxes). Additional gate signs are $480 each (plus taxes).

Who is the manufacturer of the awards?
The Wood Boys Inc. from Regina, Saskatchewan is the manufacturer. Their contact information is: phone: 306-775-3531; fax: 306-586-8910.
