ISC Donating $90,000 to Albert Community School

Mar 24-09

Information Services Corporation (ISC) is contributing $90,000 to fund the Regina Public School (RPS) One to One laptop pilot project - to make Regina’s Albert Community School the most technologically advanced elementary school in Saskatchewan.

“Being an inner-city school, very few Albert Community School students have access to computers or the internet,” said Ken Cheveldayoff, Minister of Crown Corporations. “Our goal is to provide them with improved writing, literacy and math skills, plus improved technological literacy and awareness. These skills will help the students be more successful academically and later in life.”

The project provides all students in grades five to eight with notebook computers to use at school. Video projectors and smart board technology have also been fitted into their classrooms and their teachers have been trained to incorporate the technology into their day-to-day learning.  As well, an additional cart of 10 laptops will be provided to the grade 4/5 classroom for a two to one laptop introduction.

ISC entered into a partnership agreement with Albert Community School in May, 2008. This donation is part of the corporation’s commitment to help improve and support the ongoing educational experience of the students that attend the core-area school.

“At ISC, we believe that the students at Albert Community School should have great learning opportunities like those in more affluent neighbourhoods,” said Jeff Stusek, ISC President and CEO. “We hope that the One to One laptop initiative will level the playing field and give them the same chances as their peers.”

"We are very pleased with this partnership between ISC and Albert Community School,” said Barbara Young, Chairperson, Regina Public Schools.  “This exciting partnership will provide Albert Community School students with a unique learning experience to use technology to advance their literacy and numeracy skills. Regina Public Schools is fortunate to have such a community-minded partner as ISC."

Information Services Corporation (ISC) is the provincial Crown corporation responsible for the administration of land titles, vital statistics, survey and personal property registries, as well as related geographic information and mapping systems.
