Software Recommendations

Web Browser

ISC recommends Microsoft Internet Explorer 7.  We are currently testing our website for compatibility with Microsoft Internet Explorer 8, but at this point we are not recommending it be used. If you have already installed Microsoft Internet Explorer 8, please try using it in Compatibility View. Other browsers may offer limited access to the site, but may not provide for full functionality.

Note: our online services are designed with pop up windows. Before signing in, please edit your pop up blocker settings to allow pop ups for www.isc.ca.

Adobe Acrobat Approval or Adobe Acrobat Reader

Electronic text documents are sent in PDF format. Forms that are available for download from the website are also in PDF format. To view and/or print these documents, you will require Adobe Acrobat Approval or the free Adobe Acrobat Reader, available online (http://www.adobe.com) or at a local software supplier.
  • You can use Adobe Acrobat Approval to view a form, fill it out on your screen and then save it and/or submit it online by email or e-fax.
  • Adobe Acrobat Reader will allow you to view a form, fill it in on your screen or print it out and fill it in manually and then submit it by regular fax or by mail.

Image Viewer

ISC uses TIFF file format for some information, including scanned grant documents and plans of survey.  There are many TIFF viewers available at no cost on the Internet.

Many computer manufacturers have TIFF-viewing software factory-installed. Any image viewer that supports TIFF images will be capable of viewing the image files from ISC. Free TIFF viewers such as Brava! Reader, AlternaTIFF and IrfanView are available to download if the factory-installed viewers on your computer are not meeting your needs. ISC encourages you to research alternate TIFF viewers before you download.

Note: there are several different software programs that are capable of viewing TIFF files. Most computers have an association set up between the file extension and the software package that is to be used with that type of file. If you want to switch viewers, the file extension association will need to be modified to call the new software. In some cases, this association is made automatically when new software is installed. However, you may find that you need to set this association manually. If you do not use an image viewer, you can still request that a hard copy be faxed or mailed to you.
