Adoption Information

Under The Vital Statistics Act, 1995 of Saskatchewan, Vital Statistics can release only post-adoption information with respect to a birth registration.

Adoptions

To apply for a birth certificate where an adoption has occurred, you must provide details of the adoption including the adoptive name of the child and the names of the adoptive parents.

For pre-adoption information, you must contact the provincial or territorial agency where the adoption occurred to obtain information on how and what information can be released. In Saskatchewan, contact the Department of Community Resources and Employment at:

Domestic Adoption

Domestic adoption refers to the adoption of a child who is permanently in the care of the Minister of Social Services.
 

International Adoption

Residents of Saskatchewan who wish to adopt a child from another country must make an application to Social Services and meet the requirements for intercountry adoption.
