Vital Statistics Information
Vital Statistics registers all births, deaths, marriages, stillbirths and changes of name that occur in Saskatchewan.
The certificates issued by Vital Statistics are legal proof of these vital events and provide statistical information to various agencies and the general public.
The Vital Statistics Registry maintains about 3.5 million registration documents – with more than 2 million accessible online – all marriages and deaths from 1979 to the present and all births from 1912 to the present (except those from 1937-39).
Each year, approximately 70,000 certificates and certified copies of registrations are issued, including:
50,000 Birth Certificates
5,500 Marriage Certificates
5,000 Death Certificates
And the average number of new registrations each year includes:
13,000 births
6,000 marriages
10,000 deaths
200 adoptions
900 legal changes of name
