Pursuant to Section 99(1)(b) of The Land Titles Act, 2000 the Registrar may 'lock' a title or interest. A Registrar’s Lock or prohibition is similar to the Registrar's Caveat under the former Land Titles Act.
This type of lock is the most common lock used to indicate a Registrar’s Correction is required.
This lock is registered at the title level and will appear on a title print.
Functionality of the Lock
This lock will prohibit:
- title transfer
- interest registration
- interest postponement
- interest assignment
- interest amendment
- interest registration of a judgment
This lock will not prohibit:
- interest discharge
- transfer to surviving a joint tenant
- alternate authority set-up
- title transmission

The Registrar is responsible for the removal of this lock, and will only withdraw it when satisfied that the circumstances requiring the setting of the lock have been addressed.
