This lock is used in two circumstances.
The first is when a Registrar’s Correction is required for an interest when it has been determined that the correction required should only prevent dealings with the interest. In other words, a title transfer will be permitted. Therefore, this lock is used instead of the more common and restrictive Registrar’s Prohibition General – Dealing with Land Prohibited Lock.
The Registrar’s Prohibition Interest lock is also used when a court order is obtained directing the Registrar to prevent an interest from being discharged. For example, this lock is frequently used when a court order has been obtained to prevent an interest from being lapsed.
This lock is registered at the interest level. To confirm if this lock has been placed on an interest level, you can expand the interest details when performing a title search using the search function. Interest locks are also displayed on title prints.
