How to quickly obtain all titles in a Quarter Section or Section, understanding the acreages displayed in Map Search and more.

Q. How do I get a copy of a Title or Plan?

A.
Map search allows you to view and order your copy of the plan of survey and title information within the search session by clicking beside the Title or Plan information. Please note that fees apply for this viewing service and your account will be charged or you may pay online with your credit card.

Q. What is free and what has a fee?

A. The Map Search service is free. Anything that has text highlighted in red with (fees apply) will be charged to your account, or you may pay online with your credit card.

Q. What happens when I click on the hyperlinked information in the Results Frame?

A. Check out the Results section of Map Search Help for a comprehensive listing of all hyperlinks, available layer(s) and results of clicking each hyperlink.

Q. How do I quickly obtain ALL titles in a given Quarter Section or Section?

A. Map search allows you to perform these “all titles searched” in two ways; textual search by quarter section with the plan layer on or by graphical search by drawing a line enclosing the area in which you want to see all the plans. The results will then be shown on screen where you can view in Map View or purchase copies for download.

Q. Can I rely on the acreages displayed in Map Search?

A. It depends on your use of the acreages.  Map Search utilizes the Geographic Information System Cadastral dataset which is a consolidation of plans to assist in identifying the location, size and shape of parcels in relation to other parcels.  The Cadastral is a compilation of:

  • The Primary Survey Fabric (e.g. Quarter Section, Section, Township, Range, Meridian)
  • The Secondary Survey Fabric - the subdivision of land through legally approved Plans of Survey (e.g. Lot, Block, Plan, or Parcel on Plan)
  • The mapping of Metes and Bounds parcels and Legal Subdivisions that were described on paper Certificates of Title (e.g. the South half of the Lot)

Because the Cadastral is a consolidation of thousands of plans and parcels, parcel boundaries and area may have been adjusted to fit with adjacent parcels. ISC's stated positional accuracy is 1 meter in urban areas and 5 meters in rural areas. Primary reasons for adjusting parcel boundaries include allowing them to fit together and to adjust for the curvature of the earth.  Remember too that many of the acreages shown on title and in the Primary Survey Fabric were determined over a century ago.

You may view the Map Search Disclaimer at any time by clicking on the 'Disclaimer' hyperlink located at the top right corner in Map Search.

To determine actual boundaries, dimensions, or area of any parcel, refer to the plan, or consult a surveyor.

Q. When I click on the Plan number for a specific parcel and the results indicate the Plan is a Metes and Bounds Plan, how do I obtain a copy of this Plan for free?

A. For metes and bounds parcels, the pre-converted title is the Plan.  All metes and bounds 'Plans' are free.  Simply click on the 'View Plan Image' button to obtain a copy of this Plan for free.

Q. In the ‘Surface Parcel’ window, the Validated Ties displays ‘FALSE’.  When I perform the same search in Quick Search, Validated Ties in the search results displays ‘No’.  Is this the same thing?

A. Yes.  ‘TRUE’ is the same as ‘Yes’, ‘FALSE’ is the same as ‘No’ and ‘null’ is the same as a blank field in Quick Search.  The differences are due to the manner in which information is returned.
