Saskatchewan Personal Property Registry

The Saskatchewan Personal Property (SPPR) allows customers to search and register for liens and judgments against motor vehicles, boats, trailers, snowmobiles, tractors and other forms of moveable property (not land or buildings).

Searching in the SPPR

Many people are unaware that debts on property stay with the property even after it’s sold.  If the debtor of the previous owner stays unpaid, the creditor can seize the property to settle the debt.  Searching the SPPR for outstanding liens before you buy may prevent this from happening.  It’s quick and easy to do, and because the SPPR search is online it is available anytime you are! .

For more information on how to complete a search visit the Search for Liens page.

ISC recommends that you search by both debtor name and serial number (if applicable to ensure your search results capture all the information you are looking for.

What the Search Results Mean

If the results indicate “There are no registrations(s) found in the Saskatchewan Personal Property Registry to match the search criteria you entered,” this means the criteria searched is free and clear of liens in Saskatchewan.

If the results indicate a lien, contact the Secured/Creditor Party listed on the search report for information regarding the lien.

Keep your search report as it indicates your results at a particular date and time.

Registering liens in the SPPR

The SPPR allows a creditor or secured party, such as a seller or lending institution, to register a financing statement indicating an interest in the personal property of a buyer or a debtor. By registering in the SPPR, you are ensuring that your interest in that good is protected. For example, you will be protected against another party's claim to have a stronger legal right to the property.
