Types of Notices

ISC sends out notifications to customers following a transaction. These notices are sent for all types of transactions - the following being the most common:

Land Titles Registry
Something has changed on a land title that you either fully or partially own or have an interest in (e.g. your land title has been transferred to new owners, your interest has been discharged, etc.). Notices help protect you and those with an interest in your land by ensuring all parties are aware of changes to the affected title or interest. While the vast majority of transactions are legit, there could be cases (e.g. fraudulent activity or a transaction containing an error) that may require further action.

Land Transfer Notices:
When a land title is transferred, notices are sent to both the new owner(s) and the previous owner(s). These notices are sent to the most recent address we have on file. If your address information is not current with us, you may not receive this notice. It is for this reason we strongly recommend you keep your address information current with us.

Further, some interests will carry forward from the title of the previous owner(s) to the title of the new owner(s).  In these circumstances, notices are sent to the holder(s) of these interests to ensure they are aware of the transfer. For example, if a utility company has an easement registered against the title (i.e.the registered right to enter the land to maintain their equipment), the utility company would be sent a notice that your title has transferred.

Interest Holder Notices:
If an interest registered against a title has been affected by a transaction, we notify the interest holder(s) of this interest to ensure they are aware of the transaction. If the interest is amended (something with the interest, other than who holds it, has changed), assigned (the owner has changed), renewed, or discharged, we send notices to all parties associated with the interest – including the interest holder, sub-interest holder (if applicable), and the title owner(s).

A title owner may also receive a partial discharge notice when an interest is not fully discharged from all titles it was registered against. For example, tax liens are typically registered against a variety of unrelated titles, often with different owners, in a given tax year. As title owners settle their tax arrears with the municipality, the municipality will discharge the tax lien specific to the affected titles of these title owners. When the partial discharge of the tax lien is registered, both the municipality and the title owner will receive a notice. The tax lien will continue to remain on all remaining titles it was registered against.

Each year corporations must file an annual return, some corporations are also required to file financial statements as well. If you recieve an annual return notice, this means that you are required to file an annual return and possibly a finanical statement. The annual return notice will advise when to complete the annual return.

You will be sent two annual return notices as reminders to file your annual return. If you haven't completed an annual return, your corporation will be struck from the registry.

Canada Revenue Agency Business Number Notice:
You recently completed a new business registration and are receiving notification that your business has been assigned a Business Number through the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) Business Number program. The Business Number (BN) is a nine-digit number that Canada Revenue Agency assigns to a business (or other organization such as a charity) for tax matters related to business in Canada. Having a Business Number lets businesses and other organizations simplify their dealings with each other, as well as with all levels of the public sector. The Business Number is based on the idea that each organization has one number. ISC is responsible for managing and operating the CRA Business Number program on behalf of the province of Saskatchewan. Please refer to the CRA Business Number section for more information on the CRA BN.
